Wizz Air compensation claim
Delayed or cancelled Wizz Air flight: check your compensation
Was your Wizz Air flight delayed, cancelled or overbooked, or did a disruption cause you to miss a connecting flight? Depending on the route, the operating carrier, your delay at the final destination and the cause of the disruption, you could receive up to €600 per passenger.
Depending on the distance and the conditions of your claim
The operating carrier may vary depending on the flight
Fly Claim is paid only if your claim is successful
Can you receive compensation for a Wizz Air flight?
When the flight is operated by Wizz Air Hungary, an airline established in the European Union, European passenger-rights rules may apply to flights departing from a European airport, as well as to certain flights arriving in the European Union.
However, it is still necessary to check the airline that actually operated the flight, the airports involved, the delay at the final destination and the exact cause of the disruption.
The route
The departure airport, arrival airport and any stopovers must be checked.
The operating carrier
The exact name of the airline usually appears on your booking confirmation or boarding pass.
The final delay
The actual arrival time at your final destination may be decisive.
The reason provided
A technical fault, operational issue, weather condition or air-traffic restriction will not be assessed in the same way.
The fact that your ticket displays the Wizz Air brand is not always enough to identify the airline that is legally responsible.
Which Wizz Air airline actually operated your flight?
The Wizz Air group includes several operating carriers. This distinction is important, particularly when the journey begins or ends in a country outside the European Union.
Wizz Air Hungary
An airline established in Hungary and the main operating carrier associated with the W6 code.
Wizz Air UK
An airline established in the United Kingdom that may appear as the operating carrier on certain flights.
Check the “operated by” information on your booking confirmation, boarding pass or flight details.
Compensation for a delayed Wizz Air flight
Compensation may be payable when a Wizz Air flight reaches its final destination with a significant delay and the airline cannot demonstrate that the disruption resulted from extraordinary circumstances that could not reasonably have been avoided.
The delay at departure is not always the delay used to assess a compensation claim. The actual arrival time must be compared with the scheduled arrival time.
Information to collect
- your Wizz Air flight number and flight date;
- the name of the operating carrier;
- the originally scheduled arrival time;
- the actual arrival time;
- the reason given for the delay;
- the replacement itinerary offered, where applicable.
Your Wizz Air flight was cancelled
In the event of a cancellation, you should check when Wizz Air informed you, the reason provided and the schedule of any replacement flight offered.
Ticket reimbursement, rerouting and possible fixed compensation are separate passenger rights.
Replacement flight
Compare the new departure and arrival times with those of your original booking.
Ticket refund
A refund may be requested in certain situations when you decide not to continue with the journey.
Accepting a replacement flight does not automatically remove your right to claim compensation.
Missed connection during a Wizz Air journey
When a Wizz Air delay causes you to miss another flight, it is necessary to check whether the different flight segments were included in a single booking or purchased separately.
When the tickets are independent, the second flight may be treated as a separate contract of carriage.
Important checks
- were the flights included in a single booking?
- were the tickets purchased separately?
- was a self-transfer required?
- did your baggage need to be checked in again?
- what was the actual arrival time of the first flight?
- what replacement journey was offered?
Overbooking or denied boarding with Wizz Air
Involuntary denied boarding may entitle you to compensation when you have a valid booking, arrived on time and presented valid travel documents.
Overbooking must be distinguished from denied boarding caused by arriving late at the gate, incorrect travel documents, health reasons or justified safety and security concerns.
Different rules may apply when you accepted a commercial offer in exchange for giving up your seat.
Meals, accommodation and transport after a Wizz Air disruption
When a delay or cancellation results in a significant waiting time, Wizz Air may be required to provide assistance appropriate to the duration and circumstances of the disruption.
Meals and refreshments
Reasonable refreshments and meals may be due depending on the length of the delay.
Accommodation
Hotel accommodation may be required when the new departure is scheduled for the following day.
Transport
Transport between the airport and your accommodation may also be covered.
Information
Keep all emails, text messages and notifications received during the disruption.
Keep itemised receipts for any necessary and reasonable expenses you had to pay.
How much can you claim for a Wizz Air flight?
When the eligibility conditions are met, the fixed compensation amount mainly depends on the distance of the affected journey.
Up to 1,500 km
Reference amount for eligible short-distance journeys.
Between 1,500 and 3,500 km
Amount applicable to certain medium-distance journeys and longer intra-European flights.
More than 3,500 km
Maximum reference amount for certain longer journeys.
These amounts are provided for guidance. A reduction may apply in certain rerouting situations when the passenger still arrives relatively close to the original scheduled arrival time.
