Claim assessment

Can you receive compensation for a Transavia flight?

Because Transavia France and Transavia Airlines are established in the European Union, European passenger rights rules may apply to their flights departing from a European airport and to certain flights they operate to the European Union.

To determine your eligibility, the airline that actually operated the flight must be identified, the itinerary checked, the delay at the final destination measured and the exact cause of the disruption assessed.

01

Flight number

A number beginning with TO generally identifies Transavia France, while HV identifies Transavia Airlines.

02

Journey concerned

The departure and arrival airports, together with any stopovers, must be checked.

03

Delay at final destination

The legally relevant delay is generally the delay at the final destination of the protected journey.

04

Cause given

An operational issue, a technical fault or an external restriction are not assessed in the same way.

Key point

The Transavia brand covers two carriers. The flight number identifies the airline to which the claim should normally be addressed.

Operating carrier

Does your flight number begin with TO or HV?

Before submitting a claim, check your booking confirmation, boarding pass or the email received after the disruption.

TO

Transavia France flight

Flights whose number begins with TO are operated by Transavia France.

HV

Transavia Airlines flight

Flights whose number begins with HV are operated by Transavia Airlines, which is established in the Netherlands.

Why is this distinction important?

The claim should be directed at the carrier that actually operated the flight, even when the ticket was purchased on another website or as part of a booking sold by a partner.

Flight delay

Compensation for a delayed Transavia flight

Compensation may be due when your Transavia flight reaches its destination with a significant delay and the airline cannot show that the incident resulted from extraordinary circumstances that it could not reasonably have avoided.

The delay shown at departure is not always the delay used for the claim. The actual arrival time must be compared with the scheduled arrival time.

Information to keep

  • TO or HV flight number;
  • date of the journey;
  • scheduled arrival time;
  • actual arrival time;
  • reason given for the delay;
  • emails and text messages received from Transavia.

Cancellation

Your Transavia flight was cancelled

In the event of a cancellation, you should check when you were informed, the reason given and the schedule of the alternative journey offered.

Ticket reimbursement, rerouting and fixed compensation are separate rights. Accepting a new flight does not therefore automatically remove every possibility of compensation.

Rerouting

Compare the schedule of the alternative journey with your original booking.

Reimbursement

When you decide not to travel under the applicable conditions, you may request reimbursement of the ticket.

Keep the cancellation message

The email or text message received can be used to identify the exact date on which Transavia informed you of the cancellation.

Denied boarding

Overbooking or denied boarding with Transavia

Involuntary denied boarding may entitle you to compensation if you arrived on time with a valid booking and the documents required for travel.

This must be distinguished from boarding being refused because you arrived late at the gate, had incorrect travel documents or for a reason reasonably related to safety, security or health.

Did you agree to give up your seat?

Your rights may be different when you voluntarily accept a commercial offer in exchange for your seat.
